Use ASCII Character Set in Biblioscape - January 26, 2000
Besides the characters on your keyboard, Biblioscape support all characters defined in ASCII character set.
Using ASCII Characters in Bibliographic Record:
The easiest way to use it inside a bibliographic record is go to menu command "Edit | Text | Insert Symbol", and select the desired character to add. Click "Copy" button to put it into Clipboard, or click "Insert" button to insert it at cursor position.
Using ASCII Characters in Style Editor:
Sometimes you may need to use ASCII characters in other places like output style editor. For example, you may want to use an en dash "–" instead of a regular dash "-" to separate start page and end page.
In such situation, you can use Windows charmap.exe utility to select the desired character. First, go to Windows "Start | Run", type "charmap" and click "OK" button.
Make sure "Windows Characters" is selected as "Subset" and "Times New Roman" or other true type font is selected as "Font". Then double click the desired character and click "Copy" button to put it into Clipboard. You can then paste it into Biblioscape style editor.
![]()
Alternatively, if you remember the ASCII code number of a special character, you can enter it directly by holding down the "Alt" key and type in the code number using number pad keys on the right of your keyboard. For example, Alt+0150 will give you an en dash "–", and Alt+0151 will give you an em dash "—".
