Synchronization of Bibliographic Databases - March 27, 1999

Biblioscape does not provide advanced tool to let you synchronize databases at field level. Since Biblioscape uses Paradox tables, you can use third party tools for database synchronization. But, there are some tricks to use for simple tasks.

Data Sharing Between Desktop and Notebook:
With Biblioscape installed on both desktop and notebook computer, you can just copy a database from desktop to notebook by copying all files under a database directory (for example "c:\program files\biblioscape 3\sample\"). Then, you have to designate one database as the master copy. For example, if you decide to designate the desktop database as the master copy, you can update changes made on notebook regularly by importing all records added after a certain date. Biblioscape stamp each new record with "Date of Input", changes to a record is stamped with "Date Modified". To search for records added after a certain date, go to "List | Advanced Search", select data field "Date of Input", select condition "on and after", type in the date and click "Start" button. You can then export those records as Biblioscape tag file and import it to the "mother" database.

Using BiblioExpress to Collect Data:
If you just need to add some records into database at the library, and you don't want to install the whole Biblioscape on your notebook, then
BiblioExpress is the solution. BiblioExpress is freeware and it is small enough to fit into one disk. So, it is possible to run BiblioExpress from floppy disk using the computer in library. Once you are back from the library, the new data can be easily imported into the "mother" database.
