Transfer Data from Biblioscape Default Paradox Database into InterBase with DataPump Utility - December 23, 2000
The following text only applies to Biblioscape before version 5.
Once you have created an empty database in InterBase as shown in tip_001222, you need to create tables in it and fill it with data of your existing database. The following tutorial shows you how to transfer all the data of your existing Biblioscape database into the InterBase database you have just created, with an utility called DataPump.
1. Click here to download datapump. Unzip the downloaded file into an empty directory.
2. First, you need to create a BDE alias for the InterBase database. Run BDEAdmin.exe at "c:\program files\common files\borland shared\bde\bdeadmin.exe". Once BdeAdmin is started, click menu command "Object | New...". Select "INTRBASE" as the database driver name.
3. Once the new alias is created, change its name to something easy to remember, for example: "biblioscape4_ib". On the right pane, go to section "SERVER NAME". Click the "..." button and select the InterBase database you created in tip_001222. If you are connecting to an InterBase database on a remote server, enter the IP address of remote machine before the database full path. For example, "128.183.2.122:d:\temp7\biblioscape4_ib.gdb".

4. Now, you can run the datapump.exe you downloaded in step 1. Once DataPump is started, you need to first choose the source database. Check "Select by directory" and click "Next" button.
5. Next, you need to select the destination database from a list of database alias. Select the alias you created in step 2 and 3 which is "biblioscape4_ib".

You will be prompted to connect to the database. Enter "user name" and "password". In our example, it is the default "SYSDBA" and "masterkey". Click OK button to connect.
6. Once the database is connected, you will be prompted to pick which tables you want to transfer from the source database to the destination database. Click the ">>" button to transfer all tables.
7. You will then be prompted to make any changes before the data transfer. We don't need to make any changes, so click the "Upsize" button to start the data transfer.
