How to change Biblioscape straight quotes to smart quotes in Word - March 26, 2005
In Biblioscape, only plain text are supported. So the quotes are straight quotes in the bibliography generated by Biblioscape. If you want to change them to smart quotes, you can do it easily by following the steps below.
1. From the Format menu, select AutoFormat... .
2. When the dialog box opens, click the Options... button.
3. Click the AutoFormat tab. Under "Replace", confirm that the "Straight quotes" with "Smart quotes" box is checked. If not, click the box to check it.
4. Click the OK button. You will find yourself back in the AutoFormat dialog box.
5. You can choose to let AutoFormat format everything in one step (by selecting AutoFormat Now), or you can ask it to let you confirm each change (by selecting AutoFormat and review each change). Choose the option you prefer by clicking the appropriate button, and click OK.
Here is an email from John Kirkwood about this subject:
I just looked at your website and saw the article on smart quotes. I've added a simpler method (avoiding the pitfalls of accidentally 'autoformatting' a document with lots of unintended options) below.1. From the Tools menu, select AutoCorrect... .
2. When the dialog box opens, click the AutoFormat As You Type tab.
3. Under "Replace as you type", confirm that the "Straight quotes" with "Smart quotes" box is checked. If not, click the box to check it.
4. Click the OK button.
5. From the Edit menu, select Replace... .
6. In the Find what and Replace with fields, enter a single quote.
7. Click the Replace All button.
Word automatically replaces each single quote with a smart single quote. This also works for double quotes.
