How to Capture Bibliographic Records into Database

With Biblioscape integrated browser, it is easy. Click here to see an animation.
1. Visit the web page that offers bibliographic information, run your search and display the results.
2. Make sure you have the correct import filter for the data source.
3. Click "Capture" button on BiblioBrowser, select the import filter to use and it is done.

Step 1:
The amount of bibliographic information on the web is astronomical and most of them are free. We compiled a web directory of different subject and provided corresponding import filter also. The list is growing weekly. We certainly appreciate you making contribution to this list by sharing with others a good link or import filter. To search for bibliographic information, click the subject on top of this page and go to Bibliographic Database section.

Step 2:
To successfully capture bibliographic records, you need to have the right import filter for that data source. You can either download one or make one yourself. Making an import filter requires some reading and practice, but it is not very difficult.
Click here to read more about making import filters. Click here to download a movie which include how to make import filters.

If you see a picture next to a web source, it means an import filter is available. You can download it by clicking "download filter" next to it. Once you saved it as a file, go to Biblioscape menu command "File | Define Import Filters". Click "Import" button and select the *.bif file you have just downloaded. Once this import filter is imported, you can capture bibliographic records from that web source.

Step 3:
After searching bibliographic records at the web source, display your search results on the web page. Pay attention to tip displayed on the top right corner, you may have to display the records in certain format. When you are ready, click "Capture" button.

Make sure the correct import filter is select, otherwise you wont be able to capture any record. Also, you can pick a folder where you want to put the records into. Click "Start" button to capture.
